Submitting the degree request and the request for the completion of the doctoral studies

The degree request and the request for the completion of the doctoral studies can be submitted.

The request consists of:

1. Study achievements in the final academic record and academic record (Doctoral studies)

Study achievements completed (passed), which correspond to the categories in the programme regulations, are listed in the final academic record and academic record

2. Study achievements in the addendum

If an addendum exists, this is part of the final academic record and academic record.

Additional credit points earned are listed on the addendum:

  • Completed (passed) performance assessments that are not assigned to any category in the programme regulations (“study achievements without category”).
  • Not completed (failed) performance assessments or no shows, which were not repeated.
  • Completed (passed) performance assessments from additional requirements.

Study achievements on the addendum do not count towards the average grade. They may possibly be recognised towards another degree programme at ETH.

3. Study achievements not listed anywhere else

Failed performance assessments are listed here.

Structure of request

Depending on the status of the degree request and the request for the completion of the doctoral studies, different functions and information are displayed.

The request can be submitted.

The request will be processed as follows:

  • In the transcript of record, it will be checked whether each category contains sufficient credit points in the final academic record and academic record. If necessary, study achievements can be assigned to other categories.
  • If the final academic record or academic record contains surplus credits in specific categories, the category of any given study achievement can be removed by using the Assign category function in the “Transcript of records section. Study achievements can only be removed from the final academic record or academic record (on addendum) if there are still sufficient credit points in the category of the programme regulations for the request.

The request is submitted by clicking on the Submit button.

The submission of the request can be canceled by clicking on the Cancel button.

Note for doctoral students:

The request for the completion of the doctoral studies must be submitted before the registration for the doctoral examination.

If no other active matriculations are existing, Bachelor's students will be informed that they will be dematriculated when the final academic record is decreed.

If these requirements are not fulfilled, the "Master programme" button will not be displayed. In these cases, the Registrar's Office must be contacted for enrolment in the new degree programme.

As a rule, the documents are sent 10 working days after having been drawn up and approved for printing by the Study Administration. Documents for Continuing Education programmes, however, are sent within two to four weeks. In March/April and September/October, processing may take around one working week longer than usual due to the large volume of orders.

The documents are sent by registered mail by the Swiss Post. It is not possible to send them via a courier service (for example DHL). The delivery abroad is carried out by the contractor of the Swiss Post.

As a rule, documents cannot be picked up in person or held for later dispatch.

If a longer absence is planned, it is recommended that the mail is retained, redirected by the post office or another person has the power of attorney. Information about the options at the external pageSwiss Post

The degree documents of graduates who are no longer enrolled in a degree programme are sent to the general correspondence address. In case the general delivery address is a foreign address and an alternative address in Switzerland is existing, the documents are sent to the alternative address. If both addresses are foreign, the documents are sent to the general delivery address.
