Language requirements

For many partner universities of the worldwide exchange programme, an English language test is obligatory. This page explains what to do.

Your responsibility

  • You must be able to present a valid language confirmation accepted by the partner university by the stated submission deadline.
  • If this is not submitted in time, your exchange place will expires irrevocably. Because this would deprive other students of an exchange place, you would be excluded from future exchanges.

Overview

The partner universities set the requirements for language certificates. Below you will find all partner universities per country. The second column shows whether a confirmation is required. There are three possibilities:

  • No: You do not need a language certificate and do not have to do anything.
  • ETH language confirmation: If you can indicate C1 or higher for your English language skills when applying in Mobility-Online (by your assessment), you will automatically receive the ETH language confirmation after the final acceptance for a partner university. You do not have to do anything and do not have to provide any supporting documents.
  • Yes:
    1. Note the submission deadline relevant to you (last two columns).
    2. Click on the name of the partner university (first column) and read the individual requirements under "language confirmation" carefully. The requirements vary greatly in some cases. Important: You must meet the requirements of all partner universities you are applying to.
    3. Click "yes" (second column) to see your next steps.

Contact the Student Exchange Office or partner university early on if you need clarification.
