This year, the Wolfgang Pauli Lectures will highlight the CRISPR technology, its origins and its current applications in research and medicine. The speaker is Jennifer Doudna, the 2020 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry.

Since October 2022, biochemist Dorota Pfizenmaier and chemical engineer Charles Ledoux have been Vice-President and President of the Academic Association of Scientific Staff at ETH Zurich (AVETH). In an interview with Internal news they describe what it was like coming to ETH Zurich during the lockdown and which university policy challenges they intend to address.

The role of the academic departments at ETH Zurich is to be strengthened. Workstream 4 of the rETHink project has analysed what this means for the organisation of these decentralised units. Concrete proposals have since been drawn up. Mirian Berrocal, Coordinator for D-BIOL, and Giovanni Salemme, Coordinator for D-HEST, offer an initial assessment.

The opening of the development and laboratory building on the Gloriarank (GLC) site has been delayed once again. According to the current planning status, the professorships will be able to start moving in from autumn 2022, and the building will open for the 2023 spring semester. Both teaching and research at ETH are affected significantly by the delay.

With its new building on the Gloriarank site (GLC), ETH Zurich is creating a modern development and laboratory building for Health Sciences and Technology at its Zentrum campus. The site will house 13 professorships from the HEST and ITET departments. But with building works delayed, they will have to wait a little longer. ETH expects operations to begin there in 2022.

After a long illness, Willy Krek passed away on 29 August at the age of 56. The biology professor was a key figure in the development of molecular health sciences and personalised medicine at ETH Zurich. The university has lost a passionate researcher and supporter.

An info room in the former anatomy building at University Hospital Zurich provides information on developments in Zurich’s central university district. There is also a poster exhibition in ETH’s main building that discusses what will happen to the urban space between the buildings.

At a public event of the Latsis Symposium 2016 at ETH Zurich on 29 June 2016, ETH members and the public will have the chance to discuss the opportunities and risks of personalised medicine with researchers from ETH and the University of Zurich.

In June 2016, the Competence Center Personalized Medicine UZH/ETZ and the IT'IS Foundation join forces to organize the Latsis Symposium ETH Zurich “Personalized medicine – challenges and opportunities”.

Arik Jung is the new president of AVETH. On Wednesday, members of the scientific staff association chose the physics doctoral student to succeed Florian Thöle.

The trainee lab technicians working towards the Swiss Federal Vocational Education and Training Diploma (EFZ) in biology at ETH Zurich now have their own training laboratory. It was officially opened on 5 June 2015 at Technopark Zurich.
