“Everyone has a role to play in shaping what UCT is today, and what it is becoming for tomorrow. My hope is that, together, we can create a vibrant and supportive intellectual environment that attracts and connects people from all over the world, that produces not just graduates but future leaders, and that advances the pace of transformation within the university and beyond.”
(Max Price, external pageUCT’s Strategic Planning Framework VISION 2O2O)

The Transformation strategy of UCT is comprised of four elements:

  • Making the university a more representative institution in terms of its academic and support staff, and of its student body;
  • Promoting enhanced intellectual diversity;
  • Transcending the idea of race;
  • Improving institutional climate and having an enhanced focus on our intellectual enterprise on African perspectives.

The strategy is the key to dealing with South Africa’s post-apartheid challenges in a university environment, as first expressed in the “Rhodes must fall” movement, and later in the “Fees must fall” protests.
