Polybahn Pitch with Roman Boutellier (in German)

ETH Zurich is growing. With student and staff numbers rising, space is becoming increasingly scarce at the Zentrum and Hönggerberg campuses. This issue of space can be solved only through expansion, as shown by the recent example of the Empa area in Dübendorf, where the new offices and laboratories of the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering will be located.

Yet, the basic idea is to focus on consolidating the Zentrum and Hönggerberg campuses over the next 10 years, says Boutellier in the external pagevideo. The city of Zurich has recently issued the building permit for a new construction project at both campuses. This will enable the expansion of the university district in close collaboration with the city, canton and the University of Zurich. But moving closer together and consolidation continue to be the order of the day. All construction projects on the Hönggerberg campus are planned within the existing perimeters set by the federal government. “With a concerted effort, we should be able to create more space at both sites in the next five to six years,” says Boutellier.

Further editions of the “Polybahn pitch” with members of the executive board will be published within the next few weeks. The editions with ETH president external pageLino Guzella (in German) and rector external pageSarah Springman are already online.
