SEMP Europe Projects & Traineeships

The Swiss-European Mobility Program (SEMP) supports projects and traineeships in Europe.

Application deadline

  • Two months before the stay begins.
  • You must submit the application in full, i.e. with all documents. Therefore, plan enough time to have the "Learning Agreement for Traineeships / Projects" signed by both parties (ETH and host institution).
  • An exchange SEMP Europe Projects & Traineeships may last 2 to 12 months within Europe (outside of Switzerland).
  • The traineeship or project must be part of your studies.
  • Students may undertake an exchange via SEMP Europe Projects & Traineeships for up to 12 months at each level of studies (Bachelor’s & Master’s only). Repeated application and funding is therefore possible as long as the student is at a different level of studies each time or the 12-month limit in the same programme has not yet been reached.
  • Traineeships found and supervised by other organisations (e. g. IAESTE) cannot receive additional support from SEMP Europe Projects & Traineeships.
  • If you receive an allotment from your employer it cannot exceed CHF 2000 per month including the scholarship.
  • Internships or projects have to be conducted full-time (based on national policy of your guest-destination).

No language test is required but it is the students' personal responsibility to make sure that their knowledge of the foreign language is sufficient. The host organization (company or university) rightfully expects students to understand and use its everyday and working languages.

Once we have confirmed your application, you will receive an informal language certification (English language level C1) if you have declared an adequate level of English. It is your responsibility to check with your host institution if you must submit a different language certificate (or certification) and to make sure that you can do so in due time.
