Swiss students and foreign students with permanent residence in Switzerland

When applying for an ETH scholarship, Swiss students and foreign nationals settled in Switzerland (type C residence permit) must at the same time also apply for cantonal scholarships at the Financial Aid Office of their parents’ canton of residence. Many cantons offer a “scholarship calculator” on their website. This allows you to work out what a potential cantonal scholarship might offer (see cantonal Scholarship Offices (in German) (PDF, 20 KB)).

Handing in your scholarship application

Applications for ETH scholarships cover the whole year of study (HS and FS). A new application must be made for every year of study.

Students in their first semester must hand in their application by the end of the second week of the Autumn Semester. Students in later semesters must hand in their application between 1 March and 30 June for the following year of study.

Applications handed in after the end of the second week of the semester will be considered for Spring Semester only. This applications have to arrive at Financial Aid Office by the end of the second week of Spring Semester at the latest.

Application forms and information leaflets can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office.

Scholarships for foreign students

Foreign students resident in Switzerland (type B residence permit) who are in Switzerland solely for study purposes should first find out in their country of origin whether they can obtain a scholarship for study abroad.

Foreign Bachelor’s students can apply for an ETH scholarship when they have passed their first-year exams. Foreign Master’s students who have not completed their BSc at the ETH may apply for a scholarship after they have successfully completed the second semester of their Master’s programme.
