Career entry with Asperger/Autism

Due to their particularly strong logical thinking, people on the ASD spectrum have been and continue to be frequently recommended for jobs in the fields of mathematics or computer science, e.g. programming, databases and software testing. Other fields of activity include Big Data and artificial intelligence (AI).

Another option is to work in the natural sciences. Jobs in the laboratory require detailed and precise work. Analytical skills and creative thinking are needed for evaluations.

There are many other occupations that require skills that individuals with ASD often possess. Detail, logic and conscientiousness are also required, for example, in the preparation of specifications and manuals, as a quality officer, inspector and auditor, as well as a safety officer, data protection officer and lawyer. Sensitive senses such as smell and taste can be put to good use in the food industry.

So there are many jobs for which very special skills are needed. Still, for people with autism, finding a job is often a big challenge. Certain procedures in the application process and interview can be difficult. We at the Career Center would like to encourage people with autism to be open and transparent about their ASD after prior medical evaluation. There are numerous opportunities and offers for people with ASD, which facilitate and accompany in particular the entry into professional life.
