Moodle-MS Teams Integration

The Microsoft Teams Moodle integration enables all ETH lecturers to create a MS Team for their lecture which automatically adds enrolled students. To make it work, you add a link in your Moodle course that redirects your students to the Team, the management of the participants is all done in the background. Microsoft Teams is a collaboration hub that is built around the Microsoft tools Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Additionally MS Teams also offers chat and video conference functionalities.

Benefits of MS Teams

  • Create "channels" for group work
  • Work collaboratively with Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Extensive chat function: direct message and groups
  • Easy file sharing
  • Task lists, team notebooks
  • File storage can be mounted as an external drive to the personal computer
  • Integrated video conference

How does it compare to existing tools?

ETH Zurich already offers file sharing (Polybox) and collaborative writing (Collabora), however MS Teams offers advanced functions and is better suited for large numbers of people. MS Teams does not offer quiz or test functions. Additionally, no completion or effort tracking is available. The same holds for complex learning scenarios, such as prerequisite tasks. For these functions Moodle is the preferred choice.

Getting started

Please contact LET via to request a MS Teams or with any questions regarding MS Teams and Moodle. LET will create and activate the team and can provide technical and didactical support to teachers. After the team is activated, you will still need to add a link in Moodle to redirect your students from Moodle to your Microsoft Team.
