The programme of events organised by the Association for Retired Members of ETH Zurich (Vereinigung der Pensionierten der ETH Zürich, PV ETH) is designed to ensure that former employees at ETH Zurich keep in touch with each other and with the university after they have retired. The annual programme generally comprises about four slide shows, 13 walks and visits, one or two coach trips, the Chlausfeier (St Nicholas’s Day party) and the Annual General Meeting.

This year the AGM took place on 5 March at the Hotel Kronenhof in Zurich. It was attended by 71 members and one guest.

Chairwoman Karin Schram said that the PV ETH can look back on a good year in 2014:

  • 22 members – eleven men and eleven women – celebrated a big birthday, reaching the age of 80 or more. This included Irma Kölla, who celebrated her 100th birthday.
  • As of the end of 2014, the PV ETH had 268 members.
  • Overall in 2014, the association welcomed eight new members and saw eight leave, and there were also seven deaths.
  • Eleven issues of the association’s newsletter PVETHinfo, which provides detailed reports on its activities, were published in 2014.
  • 14 walks were organised, each with between 14 and 26 participants. The record for the year was achieved by the hike to Lake Oeschinen in which 37 retired members took part (pictures available in the PV ETH Photo Gallery).
  • The Board met three times in 2014. It consists of Karin Schram (Chairwoman), Othmar Fluck (Vice-Chair), Beat Rüedin (Treasurer), Hermona Rosinger (Actuary), Hans-Peter Schneider (Head of the hiking leader team) and Maria Heinze (Anniversaries).
  • The PV ETH unanimously voted a new member on to the Board in the person of Judith Inglin, accountant and employee for 15 years in the ETH Zurich Finance department. This means the Board now has seven members.

The Retired Members' Association PV ETH was founded on 25 March 1976 by retired employees of ETH Zurich with the aim of promoting and maintaining friendly relations between former members of ETH Zurich and its four research institutes by organising social and cultural events.

Since 2013, the PV ETH has been keeping its members regularly informed about its activities by means of a newsletter in German. You can find the newsletter on the PV ETH website, together with more information about the association and an application form (in German).
