This year, the Wolfgang Pauli Lectures will highlight the CRISPR technology, its origins and its current applications in research and medicine. The speaker is Jennifer Doudna, the 2020 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) calls for an inclusive education system – including at higher education level. At a panel discussion on 20 April, affected students, teaching staff and persons with expertise in the field of teaching talked about the possibilities and limitations of accessibility in education.

The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) will take place for the first time in Switzerland and at ETH Zurich from 16 to 25 July 2023. Helpers are being sought for this major event. ETH employees will receive an additional day of holiday to compensate for their voluntary commitment.

Professor Vincent Racaniello (Columbia University) has not only made seminal discoveries in virology, he was also co-author of a very successful textbook and, as a well-known YouTuber, is now setting the bars for high-quality online science communication. As lecturer at the Richard R. Ernst Lecture 2022 on May 16, he will talk about the "Inordinate fondness for viruses" and discuss in a panel what makes good science communication, especially in a pandemic.

ETH professor Maksym Kovalenko drove from Zurich to Moldova to evacuate his mother and mother-in-law from war-torn Ukraine to safety in Switzerland. In an interview with Internal news, the Ukrainian-born professor talks about his 68-hour drive and how it feels to work and teach at ETH while his home country is under attack.

The opening of the development and laboratory building on the Gloriarank (GLC) site has been delayed once again. According to the current planning status, the professorships will be able to start moving in from autumn 2022, and the building will open for the 2023 spring semester. Both teaching and research at ETH are affected significantly by the delay.

With its new building on the Gloriarank site (GLC), ETH Zurich is creating a modern development and laboratory building for Health Sciences and Technology at its Zentrum campus. The site will house 13 professorships from the HEST and ITET departments. But with building works delayed, they will have to wait a little longer. ETH expects operations to begin there in 2022.

For 27 years, Wolfram Uhlig and his assistants have delighted their audience with barking "Chemical Dogs", flash fires of burning oil, and meter-high fountains of beer foam. Uhlig combined entertaining experiments with theoretical background in his shows. Now, he retires.

The winners of the photo competition for ETH members "Favourite places on the Hönggerberg campus" have been selected: Nicolas Ochsner won with a photo of the archive room of the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta).  

An info room in the former anatomy building at University Hospital Zurich provides information on developments in Zurich’s central university district. There is also a poster exhibition in ETH’s main building that discusses what will happen to the urban space between the buildings.

The new "42" is an anthology from the Critical Thinking team, published in print and online with articles, commentary and suggestions that encourage campus members to question the basis of their work.

An ETH Professor has recently taken on a key role in Swiss scientific policy: since January 2016, Gerd Folkers has been President of the Swiss Science and Innovation Council (SSIC).
