ETH Zurich and its members have come through the pandemic well. In the meantime, studies, research, teaching and work at ETH Zurich are back in full swing. However, quite a few ETH members are unsure what to do if they notice symptoms such as a cough, sore throat or cold.  

Stalking, violence or rampages at schools are not easy topics. Nevertheless, it is important to deal with them and to know where to turn in an emergency. Here are some tips from ETH Zurich's Threat Management Team.

The fire protection courses of the SSHE teach all interested ETH members how fires can be prevented and how to react correctly in case of fire. There are still free places for the upcoming courses.

In 2021, the second year of the pandemic, ETH will once again carry out a vaccination campaign against seasonal flu. This autumn, the Safety, Security, Health and Environment Department (SSHE) is offering this free and voluntary service to ETH employees in collaboration with the Centre for Occupational Health, Ergonomics and Hygiene (AEH).

The Executive Board encourages all members of the ETH community to get vaccinated against COVID-19. This is now easier than ever thanks to the Canton of Zurich’s vaccine bus, which will be stopping at ETH during the first two weeks of the semester.

ETH Zurich produced around 130 tonnes of hazardous waste in 2018. Thanks to digital records, the disposal of hazardous waste can now be better monitored, as the Safety, Security, Health and Environment department’s annual report shows.

Fortunately, ETH Zurich has so far been spared serious acts of violence. Should this happen, however, ETH members must be alerted as quickly as possible. For this purpose, the university uses a special tool, which will be tested soon.

The Executive Board is launching a new campaign to encourage respectful behaviour and personal responsibility among ETH members.

E-bikes are an effective way for ETH Zurich to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations. This summer, the university will be testing out several models that will allow ETH students and employees to use e-bikes. Currently, 100 people are needed to test an app-based lending system.

In September and October 2016 fire safety training is offered again. All interested ETH members are invited to register now.

The Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SSHE) department is reminding people to protect their valuables against third-party access. Thefts are costly and inconvenient, but in many cases they can be prevented.

A Chemical Intervention Team (CIT) was formed at ETH in autumn 2015. The team is on-hand to deal with minor chemical incidents at the Zentrum and Hönggerberg campuses during normal working hours. In the coming days, the CIT will carry out various training exercises on the Hönggerberg campus.
