Relocation of Core Network Components on Hönggerberg On the weekend of September 5 and 6, 2026, the core network components on Hönggerberg will be relocated to a new room. During this work, the core of the ETH data network will have no redundancies. This affects all services that rely on the data network. During this time, no changes to DNS entries will be possible. Provided there are no disruptions, this will have no impact on users. If everything goes according to plan, full redundancy will be restored by Sunday evening at the latest. Wi-Fi Update: Switching the “eduroam” SSID to WPA3-only On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., the Wi-Fi network with the SSID “eduroam” at ETH Zurich will be upgraded. For security reasons, the older WPA2 encryption will be deactivated. The Wi-Fi network will be upgraded to the current WPA3-only standard. Impact: During the maintenance window, there will be brief interruptions in the eduroam connection at all ETH locations (except for the OCT, which has already been upgraded), causing any ongoing data transfers to be temporarily disconnected. Affected network zones are: ALS, Cx, Etx, HG, LEE, LFx, NW, RZ, H1, H2, H3, HCI, Hix, Ox, BS, and LCA. What you need to know after the migration: Modern devices will generally reconnect automatically to eduroam via WPA3. Older devices that do not support WPA3 will no longer be able to connect to eduroam after the transition. In this case, please switch to the eth[-5] SSIDs. If your device is unable to connect despite supporting WPA3, delete the eduroam profile in your device’s Wi-Fi settings by selecting “Forget this network” and then reconfigure the connection. September 2026 zwischen 06:30 und 12:00 Uhr Dear Network Users On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, between 6:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., there will be a power outage and a fire alarm test throughout the entire HPH building complex due to a comprehensive security test. The power outage during the test will last approximately 60 to 70 minutes at most. All network, Wi-Fi, and telephone services in the HPH building will be affected. Important: All devices and computer systems must be shut down beforehand and turned off manually using the main power switch. This is not an evacuation drill. Any concerns should be reported to the designated contact persons in advance and as soon as possible. Any irregularities or emergencies during the test should be reported immediately to the on-site test management.
