Professor David Steurer

In his research, David Steurer focuses on the computational complexity of optimisation and estimation problems arising in the field of machine learning. For many of these problems, it is still unknown how they can be solved efficiently, such that the running time is commensurate with the size of the problem instance. In his ERC project, he aims to develop an algorithmic method that guarantees an efficient solution whenever possible and thus achieves optimal efficiency. The desired result is a unified theory that is able to explain, for as many optimisation and estimation problems as possible, whether they can be solved efficiently or not.
