2017 Shingo Research Award for Torbjørn Netland

Torbjørn Netland, Professor for Production and Operations Management (D-MTEC), receives the 2017 Shingo Research Award for the edited book «The Routledge Companion to Lean Management». He shares the prize with co-editor Dr Daryl J. Powell.

Interest in the phenomenon known as «lean» has grown significantly in recent years. The award-winning book is the first to provide an academically rigorous overview of the field of lean management, introducing the reader to the application of lean in diverse areas - from the production floor to sales and marketing, from the automobile industry to academic institutions. 72 leading authors and up-and-coming scholars from 15 countries contribute to the 40 chapters.  

Receiving the prestigious award, Netland places his research group on the list of world-leading research centres for productivity improvement and operational excellence. The editors will receive the award at the external pageEuropean Shingo Conference occurring 16 to 20 October 2017 in Brussels, Belgium.

Currently Torbjørn Netland is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor for Production and Operations Management at the Department of Management, Technology and Economics (D-MTEC), ETH Zurich. Before joining the ETH faculty he undertook research at the external pageNorwegian University of Science and Technology and the research institute external pageSINTEF Technology and Society. He has been a Visiting Researcher at the external pageCentre for International Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge, UK, and external pageMcDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, Washington D.C.
