The latest honours and prizes

The German Bundesverband Hochschulkommunikation has awarded its 2023 Digital Award to four outstanding digital communications projects. Among the winners is ETH Zurich (2nd place) with project leader Gertrud Lindner (HK). The game "Morph Tales" was awarded.

For the topics of “Design and Control Optimization of Soft Gripper Mechanisms for Manipulation” and “Autonomous Navigation of Aerial Robotic Manipulators in Unstructured Indoor and Outdoor Environments”, respectively, the Professors Robert Katzschmann and Roland Siegwart receive Amazon Research Awards.

Selina Bezzola has received the “Prize for Excellence in Development Research” 2021 for her outstanding dissertation on the impact of corporate social responsibility activities of mining companies in Africa. The Prize is awarded by the German Economic Association's Research Group on Development Economics and the KfW Development Bank.

Simone Schürle-Finke, Professor of Reactive Biomedical Systems at ETH Zurich, together with Andrea Ablasser, a physician from EPFL, has been awarded the Prix Zonta 2019 by the Swiss Zonta Clubs in recognition of her achievements in the field of science and technology.  

Francesco Locatello, PhD student from the Biomedical Informatics Lab in the Computer Science Department (D-INFK) has received the prestigious Google PhD Fellowship.

Timon Gehr, PhD student from the Secure, Reliable, and Intelligent Systems Lab (SRI) in the Computer Science Department (D-INFK) has received the prestigious IBM PhD Fellowship Award.

The Director of the National Supercomputing Center CSCS has been honoured for his outstanding achievements in the field of high-performance computing.

Three secondary schools from Wohlen (Aargau) received this year's prize for special contributions to the teaching of STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) today from ETH Rector Sarah Springman.

Alexander Haumann, a former doctoral student at the Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics in the group of Nicolas Gruber, received two awards for his doctoral thesis. In addition to the ETH medal, he received the «Prix de Quervain».

Renato Renner, ETH Professor for Theoretical Physics and head of the research group for Quantum Information Theory at the Department of Physics, has won the first ALEA Award of ETH Zurich. The ALEA Award honours leaders who enable advanced and innovative working conditions.

Margarita Chli, Head of the Vision for Robotics Lab at the Department of Mechanical Engineering (D-MAVT), was awarded the Prix Zonta 2017. With this prize the Swiss Zonta Clubs honor women for their achievements in the scientific and technical field.

David Isztl, apprentice of ETH Zurich at CSCS from 2013 – 2017, has been awarded the prize for best apprentice of Ticino 2017 in the category systems administrator by the professional association ICT Formazione professionale Svizzera italiana.

Nicola Spaldin, Professor of Materials Theory at the Department of Materials (D-MATL), has won the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award 2017. The prize recognises her groundbreaking work on new materials.
