More catering options on the Hönggerberg

Just in time for the start of semester, the "Fusion meal & coffee" restaurant opens today, offering visitors more space and a wider choice.

Even from the outside, the new restaurant looks bigger and more airy. In addition to the wider product range, the infrastructure, in particular, has been greatly improved. The main entrance is now centrally located on the Piazza. With the two new staircases and four cash points on F Floor, long queues will now be a thing of the past. With the removal of the "Cheminsula", the number of seats in "Fusion meal" has increased by 170 to 600. Outside dining hours, there are 350 work stations available for students on F Floor alone. "With the reopening of 'Fusion meal and coffee', we have hugely increased capacity on the Hönggerberg campus and adjusted the facilities to meet the catering needs of students and staff," says Robert Perich, Vice-President Finance and Controlling.

All fresh produce

Freshness is very important in the new restaurant. The staff from the new catering company, "Compass", start preparing the various dishes at 5 a.m. All the meals, sandwiches, juices and bakery products are freshly made every day. In addition to the set menu, you can choose from a homemade pasta dish and the special "Pot&Spoon" dish, and there is also a vegetarian option and a daily organic speciality. All the meals are also available to take away. From 6.30 p.m., Compass serves two dishes for latecomers on the ground floor. The prices have remained the same as before. At the main meal times, the catering company expects to serve about 2000 meals. "We are well prepared and our systems are working well, based on our experience during the first trial week. Even on the first two days we served on average 900 meals," says restaurant manager Hansruedi Heer.

Snack Court with four counters

At the "Coffee Counter" on the ground floor, guests can buy not only coffee and tea but also various desserts. The "Bakery" counter supplements this with sweet and savoury snacks, fresh sandwiches and pizza. At the "Green" counter, guests will find fresh fruit, Birchermüesli and freshly pressed juices.

To cater for those wanting fast food or takeaways, the Coop offers its own range of chilled drinks, packaged sandwiches, salads and yoghurts. Staff and students can also heat up takeaway meals in microwaves provided for free. Prices are the same as in the Coop shop. "Fusion coffee" is also open on selected Saturdays and Sundays. Details of current opening hours are on the ETH catering services website and noticeboards at the entrances.

The catering facilities on the Hönggerberg campus continue to be improved and extended. In 2015, the former Physics canteen in the HPR building will reopen with a new "Foodmarket" service. At the northern end of the campus near the HIT building, a pavilion is being built to house a waitress-service restaurant to replace the Cheminsula.
