Registration of course units

What is a course unit?

A course unit consists of one or more courses that form a unit and are offered together for a performance assessment.

Registering for course units

In principle a course unit must be registered for if a student wishes to attend any of its courses.

In addition, registration for a performance assessment is possible only if registration for the course unit in question has taken place.

Restrictions on Special Students and auditors

In principle it is not possible for Special Students and auditors to enrol for courses marked with black rectangles in the Course Catalogue. For details see general explanations for auditors.

Further restrictions on registration for some course units

  • Red exclamation mark: Course units with limits on registration are marked with a red exclamation mark. Click on the icon to view the details.
  • Limited number of places: If all course places are full, you will first be placed on a waiting list. After registering, please see the brown text under the title of the course unit: "Place xx on waiting list".
  • Primary target groups: Students who are required to attend this course unit have priority. Students who do not belong to this primary group may not attend, or are initially placed on a waiting list even if places are still free.
  • Free places are allocated according to a student’s position on the waiting list. Students are notified by email if they may participate.
  • Waiting list expiry: The waiting list is only maintained up to a certain deadline, usually just before lectures begin. After this it is cancelled, and students informed by email.

Important note: In myStudies confirmed registration is at the moment only differentiated visually from waiting list status by the text in brown, "Place xx on waiting list". After registering for a course unit with a red exclamation mark, please therefore make sure to check whether you have been placed on a waiting list.

Choice of course units

A search in myStudies will call up the same course units as in the Course Catalogue.

Exception: Course units comprising courses that are not offered in the corresponding semester (for example, courses which take place only every two years). These are listed in the Course Catalogue with an explanatory note, but are not accessible in myStudies.

Search result x without structural information: If you check "Search result - without structural information" when searching for course units, every course unit will be listed only once and details of the respective programme will not be provided. To view the respective programme click on "Offered by".

Language: Course unit titles

Please note that course unit titles in myStudies are always in the original language, i.e. the language in which the respective course unit is taught.

Select group

The button is displayed if the course requires that students register for a group in myStudies. Typically it is about exercise groups taking place in different locations.

As soon as a group has been selected, only the according time and location for this group will be displayed, togetzer with all other times and locations of the course which do not belong to a group.
