Video Surveillance

Obligation to provide Information

On September 1, 2023, the revised data protection law came into effect, aligning closely with EU regulations. The emphasis is now on stronger protection of personal data, this emphasis also applies to ETH Zurich. Data protection specifically refers to safeguarding personal data, not factual data, and includes IP addresses, phone numbers, license plates, and pseudonymised data.

Those responsible must adequately inform individuals before any planned data acquisition or processing, even if the data isn't obtained directly from the individual.

According to external pageArticle 19 (Information duty in the acquisition of personal data) of the data protection law, ETH Zurich is obligated to transparently disclose the use of new information boards.

Video surveillance at ETH Zurich is governed by external pageArticle 36i of the Federal Law on the Federal Institutes of Technology (ETH Law).
