Mirko Meboldt appointed new KdL President

During their General Conference, ETH Zurich lecturers voted in Mirko Meboldt to become the new President of the Lecturers’ Conference (KdL). He will be taking over the position from Professor Ulrike Lohmann in early August.

“I’m incredibly honoured that my colleagues have placed their trust in me to serve as President of the KdL,” said Mirko Meboldt after being voted in during the General Conference of the Faculty Members on 5 May 2022.

The KdL is ETH Zurich’s committee representing the interests of lecturers and the Executive Board in all matters affecting faculty members. It is made up of six members who are elected by the General Conference, one representative for each department as well as the Rector. Meboldt has been a member of the committee since 2020.

A recipient of multiple teaching awards

“I first encountered the KdL in 2016 when I received the KITE award,” said the professor of product development and engineering design, looking back. KITE stands for “Key Innovation in Teaching at ETH Zurich”. Meboldt was the first person to win this award from the KdL, which was presented for the fourth time, incidentally, on the day before he was voted in. However, even before winning this award, students had already awarded him the Golden Owl for his teaching work one year before.

Mirko Meboldt will take on this new role in early August as well as represent the KdL in the University Assembly. He will be taking over from Ulrike Lohmann, who is vacating the post to take on the position as new Vice Rector for Doctoral Studies in early February 2023. As KdL Vice President, Alexander Caspar, Senior Scientist in the Department of Mathematics, has been confirmed for another term of office.
