Retrospective digitisation – find out more and join in the discussion

We will celebrate ten years of e-rara with a virtual panel discussion – an exchange between experts, researchers and people interested in science on “Retrospective digitisation in Switzerland”.

Join us for a public virtual panel discussion on 20 April 2021, focusing on the external pagee-rara success story. Launched in 2010, the platform for digitised prints from Swiss institutions will celebrate its ten-year anniversary one year later than it should have done due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Helping to facilitate research and teaching

In e-rara, a platform has been created for academics and everyone interested that both preserves and shares knowledge. Using retrospective digitisation, historical holdings can be secured, processed and made available online for scientific researchers and the general public.

The programme for 20 April 2021 from 2.00 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.

The panel discussion will start with a presentation that traces the development of the platform and provides a summary of the work carried out to date. The new challenges and aims of retrospective digitisation will then be discussed by a panel of experts that have been involved in the development of e-rara or use it for their research.

Who is taking part in the discussion?

The panel will provide new information on the platform and insights into the topic of retrospective digitisation and comprises Professor Rudolf Mumenthaler, Director of the Zurich University Library, art historian Sonja Gasser and the Digital Humanities researchers and lecturers Professor Tobias Hodel and Julien A. Raemy. The discussion will be presented by Michael Gasser, Head of Collections and Archives at the ETH Library. You will be greeted by Andreas Kirstein, Deputy Director of the ETH Library.

You are also welcome to join in the discussion and ask any questions you may have!

Good to know: The panel discussion will take place virtually, registration is not required. The link to the event will be made available on our website on 20 April 2021.
