For the period from Thursday, 24 December 2020 up to and including Sunday, 3 January 2021, special ETH Zurich opening times and operational hours apply.

Reduced services

From Monday, 7 December 2020, many buildings will only be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Specific opening times will be displayed directly at the main entrances.

On Thursday, 24 December 2020, all ETH buildings will close at 1 p.m. You can still enter the buildings using your key or ETH card.

At the turn of the year, all customer counters will be closed – and will not respond to telephone calls or e-mails.

What is the procedure for special incidents or emergencies?

For incidents concerning persons, buildings and infrastructure, the ETH Emergency Desk is at your service over the holiday period.

All Student Services desks are closed from Saturday 19.12.2020 up to and including Sunday 03.01.2021.

If the current situation allows, the ASVZ will offer a “Christmas special” at the Irchel and Hönggerberg sport centres from 26- 31.12.2020. You can find more information at external pageasvz.ch.

At the Irchel and Hönggerberg facilities, sports activities will run according to the sports timetable. It is mandatory to register online in advance.

You can find the opening times of the various ETH Zurich catering operations on the website.

The ETH Store shops will be closed from 23.12.2020 to 03.01.2021. Then from 04.01.2021, the limited opening times for the between-term period will apply.

You can find the special opening times for other services, such as the Coop at Hönggerberg, on the website of the respective company.

The ETH cash desks are closed from 12 noon on 24.12.2020 to 03.01.2021.

The ETH eLink shuttlebus will follow its normal rounds until the afternoon of 24.12.2020. Last trip: 13:50 Zentrum / 13:54 Hönggerberg. There will be no Link service at the turn of the year. The timetable on the ETH website will apply from 04.01.2021

The Service Desk operated by IT Services will not be staffed from 12 noon on 24.12.2020 to 03.01.2021.

The ETH Bibliothek, special libraries, collections and archives will be closed from 1 p.m. on 24.12.2020 until 03.01.2021. For research and information

Central contact points for information and services as well as any questions about ETH Zurich.

Campus Info at Zentrum and Hönggerberg, and the telephone switchboard will provide a full service until 12 noon on 24.12.2020. Thereafter, Campus Info will be closed until 03.01.2021.

The times posted on the ETH website apply for printed products from the Campus Info Print and Publish. The web shops and the large format devices in the self-service areas will be out of operation between 1 p.m. on 24.12.2020 and 8 a.m. on 04.01.2021.

Post to be delivered internally via Logistics by the morning of 24.12.2020 should be handed in to a drop-off point by the evening of 22.12.2020. Between 25.12.2020 and 03.01.2021 post will not be collected or delivered. On 04.01.2021 the postal service will resume normal operation.

The following applies for the locations of the self-access centre of UZH and ETH Zurich:

  • Self-access centre Zentrum RAI J 15, closed from Saturday 19.12.2020 up to and including Sunday 17.01.2021
  • Self-access centre Hönggerberg HIL E 2, closed from 12.45 p.m. on Thursday 24.12.2020 up to and including Sunday 03.01.2021
  • Help desk KOL P, closed from 12 noon on Friday 18.12.2020 up to and including Sunday 03.01.2021

The Workshop platform will not process any requests from 12 noon on 24.12.2020 to 04.01.2021. Please submit orders to be placed this year in good time.


Maintenance of buildings, facilities and outdoor areas

The Emergency Desk is staffed 24 hours a day throughout the holiday period. Dial +41 44 342 11 88 for external / mobile phone calls or 888 for internal calls.

The ETH card (badge / student identity card) allows access to the student workstations and offices in many of the ETH buildings. You can find more information about this at 24-hour access to student working places. Buildings without an electronic door system may be accessed with a key as usual.

The Hönggerberg underground car parks are accessible throughout the holiday period. In an emergency, please contact the Emergency Desk via +41 44 342 11 88 or 888 (internal calls).

A full winter service will be carried out for the roads on ETH premises, but only limited snow clearing and gritting for footpaths between 24.12.2020 and 04.01.2021.

MIBAG Property Managers AG (HWW) and Livit FM Services AG (HWA, HWB, HWC) will provide the winter service for the student residences at Hönggerberg.
