From Oberstrass to Mars

On Saturday, 9 June 2018, ETH took the opportunity to engage in a direct exchange with residents of the Oberstrass district for the third time. The area’s institutions, organisations and companies introduced themselves at the Oberstrass Määrt, a neighbourhood fair.

This year’s visitors experienced another close-up of ETH Zurich. Entertaining comics from the Expedition Solar System special exhibition at focusTerra attracted many space enthusiasts to the stand by Rigiplatz in Zurich. The comics tell the story of how and why space research is particularly relevant to ETH.

Das Gravitationstrampolin, ein mit elastischem Stoff bespanntes rundes Gerüst, veranschaulicht einige Grundsätze der Gravitation und der Raumzeit.

Visitors saw a virtual Mars rover in an interactive app, they curved space time in an experiment (small picture) and started solar systems. A screen in the background showed the successful launch of the Mars mission at the start of May.
