Career Seed Grant: A step towards academic independence

ETH Zurich is launching the Career Seed Grant. Postdoctoral researchers at ETH Zurich have until 1 March 2016 to apply for grant money that will enable them to conduct their own research project.

At the request of the Vice President Research and Corporate Relations, the Executive Board has established the ETH Zurich Career Seed Grant as of 1 March 2016.

The new ETH funding instrument will give postdoctoral researchers at ETH Zurich the opportunity to independently conduct their own research project alongside their tasks in the research group of their professorship.

Those interested in applying for a Career Seed Grant should note the following:

  • Projects should be designed for a maximum of 12 months and will be supported in material resources to a maximum amount of CHF 50,000.
  • Postdoctoral researchers with a temporary appointment at ETH Zurich will be supported from the second year up.
  • Project proposals must include a letter of support from the supervising professor.
  • The funding instrument is open to postdoctoral researchers in all 16 ETH departments and faculties.
  • It will support project ideas across the whole spectrum, ranging from basic to applied research.
  • Proposals will be evaluated and selected by the ETH Zurich Research Commission according to set standards.
  • Postdoctoral researchers who submit proposals on the strategic themes of energy, sustainability, global food, risk management, information security, materials and processes may present their project to industry partners as part of the Partnership Councils.

Submissions deadlines for a Career Seed Grant: 1 March 2016 and 1 September 2016.
