Doctorate
General Information
History of the Modern World as a unit of the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences (D-GESS) and ETH Zurich offers two kinds of doctoral study courses: the interdisciplinary and the specialized doctorate. Below, you find general information on the doctrate (in particular, ETHZ Student Portal and D-GESS Doctoral Studies), registration and admission, procedures and dead lines, supervision and final examination (please note fee).
Specific Requirements Chair
In addition to at least four credits gained by regular ETH courses (see Detailed Requirements D-GESS below) doctoral students of the chair History of the Modern World have to fulfill the following requirements:
- visiting (with paper presentation) of two international conferences,
- publishing one article in an anthology or an academic specialized journal,
- actively participating in one course (on consultation with supervisor)
- regular participation at the chair's Research Colloquium and Team Meeting
- external research stay
Research leaves and conference visits have to be approved by the supervisor.
