This article looks at the strengthened relationship between Moscow and Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The author argues that while the West has been preoocupied with the conflict in Ukraine, Russia has been busy consolidating it's influence in these two South Caucasus territories. Yet, despite the fact that Abkhazia and South Ossetia are on the verge of being absorbed into the political and military structures of the Russian Federation, European organizations such as the EU and NATO, appear to be powerless to act.
