This article argues that treating the Syrian conflict in isolation from other regional problems in the Middle East might facilitate a US-Saudi-Iran rapprochement. The author further suggests that a way to push the warring factions in Syria to the negotiation table may be to reduce the escalation of material support provided them and to impose an economic embargo to stop funds for military purposes getting out of and arms into the country.
