In light of the death of Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in August 2012, this article examines the impact of the social, security and economic policies of Meles’ government on the country and its position in the Horn of Africa. The author also examines the future prospects for Ethiopia, contending that a host of demographic, economic and environmental challenges may compromise Ethiopia's status as a regional power.
