This article discusses the energy security concept of the 'water-food-energy-climate nexus', or the idea that water, energy and food security are linked to one another and that a decision in one area affects the others. The author contends that while this idea can help reduce waste and inefficiency and help tackle the challenges facing environmental security, if an approach that uses it does not take account of inequality, insecurity and the potential for violence, it could hasten the arrival of a more violent future rather than averting one.
