Cyber Security Today: A United States Perspective

On 19 September 2012, the ISN and CSS hosted a presentation by Ms. Melissa Hathaway, the former Acting Senior Director for Cyberspace at the United States’ National Security Council and a senior advisor to Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama on cyber security issues.
In the following video, Ms. Hathaway describes her role in helping to develop recent US cyber security strategy, the threats and challenges that still exist in the cyber realm, and the “five areas of tension” found in government bureaucracies and the private sector that complicate the development of coherent and effective cyber security policies.

Melissa Hathaway recently joined the Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs as a senior advisor to its cyber security initiative, Project Minerva, which is a joint project between the US Department of Defense, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard University.
