Even Small NGOs Can Make a Difference

In 2004, Joseph Nye heralded external page'The Rising Power of NGO's.call_made' Today, with NGOs often the preferred recipients of state aid programs rather than weak or corrupt governments, their number and their budgets have grown significantly. In 2011, one of the world's largest NGOs, World Vision International, had an external pageincomecall_made of $2.79 billion – a figure which exceeds the GDP of more than twenty states. While these larger NGOs are most often in the media spotlight, there has also been a proliferation of smaller NGOs. As Paul Collier argues below, it is often these smaller organizations that achieve the most impressive results.
