After you have registered, you may apply for the desired programme during the application period. The application form is not accessible outside of the application period.

The application form is divided into several pages, which you may fill out independently of one another:

Required application documents depending on your Bachelor's degree

Degree programme

First, select the desired degree programme from the dropdown menu. Please note that we cannot transfer an application submitted for a specific degree programme to another degree programme. To apply for a different degree programme you must submit a separate application.

Start semester

Note for ETH Bachelor students: If you want to submit an ESOP application for the spring semester 2022 for your consecutive (i.e. building on your Bachelor's degree) Master's programme, please select Autumn semester 2022 and inform the support by clicking on Contact at the top right next to Help (software error).

Major”/specialisation, field of interest, tutors

These entries depend on the degree programme selected. If you change your mind during the process and apply for a different degree programme, it is very important to change these entries accordingly.

Direct doctorate programme

Not all Master’s degree programmes offer a direct doctorate programme. For this reason, only the direct doctorate programmes in Chemistry, Chemical and Bioengineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, and Physics are shown. Find out in advance about the specific stipulations which apply to your degree programme. An application is only possible during the first application window. Please note that if you apply for a direct doctorate programme, you cannot submit an additional Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) application.

Master's degree programme

Select this option to apply for Master’s studies and a possible excellence scholarship (Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) or ETH-D Scholarship).

Origin of Bachelor's Degree

Issue of your Bachelor’s degree: The documents required for your application depend on your Bachelor’s degree. This entry refers to the Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an internationally recognised university which qualifies you to apply for Master’s studies.

Please note that the category you select here will determine aspects of your application such as the documents required and the application fee.

Swiss student ID number

Applicants who are who have been enrolled at a university in Switzerland (Swiss university, EPFL, ETHZ, Swiss university of applied sciences etc.) must enter this number correctly. If you have selected the wrong category this could lead to a discrepancy and rejection of your application.
