Convivium professorum

Convivium professorum

In the dining halls of elite British universities, there is a "high table" where the professors eat their meals. It gives professors the opportunity to discuss university politics and the latest gossip informally with various dining companions. But the "high table" is also a place where new, forward-looking project ideas can be born.

This is where the inspiration for convivium comes from. At the dinner party for ETH professors they can get to know colleagues from other departments, hold scientific debates, and also discuss "wild" and innovative ideas.

About the event

  • Dates: the convivium takes place on the same day as the Conference of the Heads of Department meeting (see box for dates).
  • Duration: all professors are welcome to come along at any time from 6:30-10:00 pm, whether it’s for the whole evening or only for an hour.
  • Venue: typically, a long dining table awaits you in the Semperaula. A special exception is being made for this occasion; usually no food or drink is permitted in the Semperaula. Certain evenings take place at the Dozentenfoyer or on the Hönggerberg. The venue of each event is mentioned in the invitation.
  • Food: a small but delicious regional buffet will be on offer. Feel free to serve yourself.
  • Table plan: sit at the tables in the order in which you arrive and sit next to colleagues you don’t know if possible. Networking is the credo of the convivium.
