Basler Wissenschaftspreis 2017 for Hans Gersbach

Hans Gersbach (D-MTEC), Professor for Macroeconomics: Innovation and Policy, has been awarded the 2017 «Wissenschaftspreis» of the city of Basel for his outstanding interdisciplinary work on topics of great relevance for society and economic policy.

His current research topics are for instance growth and innovation processes, the optimal capital structure of banks, monetary theory and policy, as well as new forms of democracy. It is a hallmark of Hans Gersbach’s work that he not only addresses these key macroeconomic and societal questions scientifically, but also transfers his insights into economic and policy practice.

Since 2006, Hans Gersbach is Professor for Macroeconomics: Innovation and Policy at the Department of Management, Technology and Economics (D-MTEC) of ETH Zurich. Before joining ETH, Gersbach undertook research at other universities, including the external pageUniversity of Heidelberg and the external pageUniversity of Basel, and was visiting scholar at the external pageUniversity of California, Los Angeles. He is member of numerous research centers and boards such as the KOF Swiss Economic Institute or the ETH Risk Center and he is President of the Scientific Advisory Board of the external pageGerman Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The Basler Wissenschaftspreis

The annual research award of the city of Basel rewards outstanding research and is awarded to scientists whose education and research are connected to the University of Basel. Hans Gersbach will receive the award in September 2017 at the townhall of Basel.
