Women in Science Award for Nicola Spaldin

Nicola Spaldin, Professor of Materials Theory at the Department of Materials (D-MATL), has won the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award 2017. The prize recognises her groundbreaking work on new materials.

Nicola A. Spaldin has been Professor of Materials Theory at the Department of Materials since 2011. The award recognises her multidisciplinary research into new materials that have switchable magnetic and ferroelectric properties. The five winners of the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award were chosen from a worldwide community of scientists and were then assessed by an independent international jury of 12 distinguished scientists. Each laureate will receive a prize of EUR 100,000 (approx. CHF 106,615) at the award ceremony on 23 March 2017 in the Maison de la Mutualité in Paris.
