E4D Doctoral Scholarships
E4D Call 2017 now open!
The Engineering for Development (E4D) doctoral scholarship programme promotes the development of products or methods which are directly relevant for improving the livelihoods of poor people in developing or transition countries. It awards two doctoral fellowships per year and promotes projects which are directly relevant for improving the livelihoods of poor people in developing countries. The grant sum is 175'000 CHF to cover the salary costs of the doctoral student for three years.
The programme is funded through the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development since 2008.

- Maximum age: 40 yrs
- Excellent MSc degree and high academic performance
- ONLY contact an ETH professor with a concrete project idea (pre-proposal)

Top Science Award for E4D Fellow Alireza Javadian
Alireza Javadian, E4D fellow and a doctoral student in the Hebel Research Group at the Future Cities Laboratory in Singapore, wins top distinguished award in the 2015 Singapore Challenge: The Science of Future Cities for his research on Advanced Fiber Composite Materials. The Singapore Scientific Challenge 2015 is jointly organised by A*STAR, NUS, NTU, SMU and SUTD as part of A*STAR’s Science@50 initiative to mark a half-century of excellent science in Singapore on her 50th birthday. It seeks to promote engagements and collaborations amongst the wider scientific community and to raise the level of scientific thought leadership in Singapore.
