MOOCs are ETH’s visiting cards and are strategically selected. The term “MOOC” stands for “Massive Open Online Courses”. At ETH Zurich these courses generally reflect the content of completed ETH courses, made available to all interested parties worldwide. They do not lead to an official ETH Zurich degree. An important element of MOOCs are short instructional videos embedded in interactive elements such as forums, exercises and quizzes. Experience has shown that thousands of people sign up for MOOCs, but only a fraction of these take part actively. ETH uses the edX platform for its MOOCs.
