1. Unconditional admission

1.1. Your matriculation certificate has been issued by 30 April

You will receive the admission decision in writing within approximately 10-30 working days of receipt of your application. You will be requested to submit certain original documents by a given deadline, should you wish to take up the university place.

1.2 Your matriculation certificate has not been issued by 30 April

Be sure to send all available documents required by us to the Admissions Office by 30 April. You will then receive a letter of acknowledgement.

Send a copy of your matriculation certificate immediately upon receipt by email, fax (+41 44 632 11 17) or post but not later than 5 July, including an official translation if the original is not in German, French, Italian or English. In case you receive your matriculation certificate just a few days later (e.g. Luxembourg), please contact the Admissions Office.

Should you receive your exam results mid-July or later (e.g. A-Levels, Irish Leaving Certificate), you can only be admitted if you meet the requirements for unconditional admission. Entry for first-year students is always in the autumn semester 2017; there is no entry in the spring semester.

It is therefore essential that you indicate in your application when you will receive it.

If you wish to register for the entrance exam, return the green registration form together with the required documents to the Admissions Office by 10 July 2017 (latest arrival of the documents at the Admissions Office) at the very latest.

3. Original documents

ETH Zurich requires the original of your matriculation certificate and, where requested, the originals of the university entrance examination results, as well as an official (certified) translation of all documents which are not issued in German, French, Italian or English.

Swiss Universities require the original matriculation certificate in order to assign an individual Swiss matriculation number to each new student. This number (a tiny yellow sticker) has to be attached to the matriculation certificate.

All original documents will be returned during the autumn semester. If you fail the entrance examination, you may pick up your original documents from the Admissions Office immediately after publication of the exam results.
