DO I MEET THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS?
The admission requirements according to countries and types of diplomas are published on the website of the Swissuniversities (see ETHZ).
HOW AND WHERE DO I APPLY?
Fill out an online application.
Please print out the PDF File of your online application form and send it along in hard copy, duly signed (original signature) with the required documents by 30 April (date of the postmark) at the latest to the following address: ETH Zurich, Admissions Office, Raemistrasse 101, HG F 21, 8092 Zurich, Switzerland. Applications without hard copy will not be considered.
WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT WITH MY APPLICATION?

MAY I APPLY TO MORE THAN ONE PROGRAMME?
Yes. A separate application in eApply is required for each study programme. A fee will be due for each application you submit.
CAN I SWITCH PROGRAMMES AT A LATER TIME?
This depends on the country-specific admission conditions. Please contact the Admissions Office.
ARE THERE ANY BACHELOR’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES TAUGHT ENTIRELY IN ENGLISH?
No. German is the main language of instruction. Please see our language requirements. Furthermore, a good command of English is necessary, especially in the second and the third year of study and in our Master programme.
DOES ETH OFFER GERMAN LANGUAGE COURSES FOR APPLICANTS?
We do not offer such courses.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO START IN THE SPRING SEMESTER?
No, there is no entry in the spring semester for first-year students. First-time commencement of the Bachelor’s degree programme is only possible at the beginning of the autumn semester.
I WILL RECEIVE MY SCHOOL-LEAVING CERTIFICATE AFTER APRIL 30. MAY I STILL APPLY TO THE AUTUMN SEMESTER?
Yes, you may apply to the autumn semester. You must submit your school-leaving certificate by mid-July at the latest. Should you receive your exam results later (e.g. A-Levels, Irish Leaving Certificate), we cannot guarantee entry in the same year. Please see 'Next steps' for more information.
I WILL RECEIVE MY GERMAN CERTIFICATE ONLY AFTER THE APPLICATION DEADLINE OF 30 APRIL. CAN I SUBMIT MY APPLICATION BEFORE I HAVE RECEIVED MY GERMAN LANGUAGE TEST RESULTS?
Yes, you must submit your application by 30 April at the latest. The deadline for submitting the German certificate depends on the kind of admission.
- Admission conditional upon passing our entrance examination: 10 July.
- Admission without entrance examination: Friday of the 37th calendar week.
IS THERE A CAP ON STUDENT NUMBERS?
There is a cap on student numbers only for the Bachelor programme in Human Medicine, which has specific requirements concerning the nationality, residence permit status and type of high school diploma.
IF I MEET THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OR PASS THE ETH ENTRANCE EXAMINATION, IS MY STUDY PLACE GUARANTEED?
Applicants who meet the entrance requirements are guaranteed a place in their chosen Bachelor’s degree programme. This applies to all Bachelor study programmes, except for Medicine.
I HAVE STUDIED AT ANOTHER UNIVERSITY. CAN MY CREDITS BE TRANSFERRED?
Only under certain conditions. ETH’s policy about credit transfer from previous studies is quite restrictive, e.g. a maximum of 60 ECTS credits, most of the time even less, can be transferred.
You will need to apply for the first semester. You may submit a request for recognition of your previous study achievements only after fulfillment of our admission and language requirements.
THE APPLICATION DEADLINE OF 30 APRIL IS OVER. CAN I STILL APPLY FOR THE COMING AUTUMN SEMESTER?
Late applications for the autumn semester can only be considered under specific conditions, cf. 2.3
CAN I POSTPONE MY ENTRY UNTIL NEXT YEAR?
No, our decision on admission is valid only for the coming semester. You will need to reapply in the following academic year (1 November – 30 April).
HOW MUCH WILL THE TUITION FEES AND LIVING COSTS BE? ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?

HOW DO I FIND ACCOMMODATION?

2. ENTRANCE EXAM
WHERE AND WHEN WILL THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION BE CONDUCTED?
The entrance examination will take place during the 34th – 35th calendar weeks on the premises of ETH Zurich. The examination results will be released online on Friday of the 35th calendar week at 1:00 PM.
HOW CAN I APPLY?
If you need to sit the entrance examination, you will receive a registration form together with our decision on admission. Please send the duly filled and signed form with all the required documents by post or bring it by 10 July at the latest (arrival in the Admissions Office). It is not possible to apply directly, without any decision of the Admissions Office.
WHAT ARE THE EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS?

ARE THERE PAST EXAMINATION PAPERS I COULD STUDY?
We have a selection of past written exams that you may download.
WENN IS THE EXAMINATION CONSIDERED PASSED?

DOES ETH OFFER PREPARATORY COURSES?
No. Nor does ETH offer any German-language classes for applicants. A list of private schools offering preparatory courses and a list of language schools will be included with the admission decision.
CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANY TEXTBOOKS?
The ETH Admissions Office does not give any recommendations for textbooks (PDF, 186 KB).
UNTIL WHEN CAN I HAND IN MY C1 GERMAN LANGUAGE CERTIFICATE (WHEN REQUIRED FOR THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION)?
Until 10 July at the latest (Registration deadline of the entrance examination/Arrival in the Admissions Office).
I DO NOT MEET THE CRITERIA FOR UNCONDITIONAL ADMISSION. DO I HAVE TO SIT ALL EXAM SUBJECTS?
Yes. The ETH entrance examination consists of a fixed set of subjects that has to be taken by all exam candidates, regardless of chosen study programme. Individual subjects are not waived.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE ADMITTED, AS AN EXCEPTION, WITHOUT AN ENTRANCE EXAM – E.G. ON THE BASIS OF OUTSTANDING GRADES OR AWARDS – EVEN IF THE ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS HAVE NOT BEEN FULLY MET?
No. The admission requirements according to countries published on the Swissuniversities website (see ETHZ) are binding and non-negotiable. They apply to all applicants in equal measure.
