Specialists for the Environment
The Master’s degree programme in Environmental Sciences imparts the ability to address complex and interdisciplinary issues at a high scientific level and thus provides the basis for an academic career.
Holders of this Master’s degree also acquire the competences necessary to work as innovative and flexible leaders in society, science and the economy.
The Master's degree programme requires two years. In the first year, students focus on scientific topics related to their chosen specialisation (Major). Minors and/or elective courses complement the core courses of their selected Major. The following Majors are offered:
- Atmosphere and Climate
- Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics
- Ecology and Evolution
- Environmental Systems and Policy
- Forest and Landscape Management
- Human Health, Nutrition and Environment
One semester is spent outside the ETH - in Switzerland or abroad - gaining work experience in a non-academic setting to address environmental questions. Finally, the programme is completed with a Master thesis (six months) on a topic selected from the subject range of the chosen Major.
