Please note the additional departmental conditions and information which govern exchange and visiting students who wish to study at ETH Zurich.

General prerequisites and conditions:

  • Students must register for and pass course units comprising at least 20 ECTS credits per semester.
  • Two-thirds of these course units must stem from the same department.
  • Note the Study plan guidelines (PDF, 55 KB) carefully!
  • Students must have reached at least level B2 in the language of instruction.

Design studios are subject to an internal enrolment procedure which takes place about a month before the semester begins. You will receive further information in this regard.

 

Places in design studios are allocated by the department according to this internal enrolment process.

 

There is no guarantee that you will be assigned to a specific design studio.

For block courses there is an internal registration procedure and places are limited; note that block courses are very difficult to combine with courses from other study programmes, they are intended only for combination with the Departments’ concept courses. D-BSSE only offers Master’s degree programmes, and therefore only Master’s degree students may apply for an exchange programme at D-BSSE.

 

Courses do not take place in Zurich, but are held primarily in Basel. Please note the lecture location when you put together your courses. If you need to travel, allow ca. 1½ hours per journey.

The courses of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Human Medicine (courses beginning with 377-xxxx-xxx) are not open to exchange students.

 

During the pilot phase of the Bachelor’s degree in Medicine we are offering no placements in the area of clinical human medicine (i.e. in hospitals or medical practices).

 

Practica in the area of medical science are, however, possible via the HST degree programme.

At least two-thirds of the courses of incoming exchange or visiting students must come from the BSc/MSc programmes in (Applied) Mathematics.

 

Please note that most of the advanced courses in probability theory, statistics and similar areas presuppose familiarity with measure theory approaches of probability theory. Students who wish to attend these courses must possess solid knowledge of measure theory, for example by having already attended the corresponding courses or by acquiring the knowledge themselves, preferably with the help of a faculty member from the home university.

Courses in the categories Engineering Tools, Laboratory Practice, Focus Project and Workshop Training are not open to incoming exchange or visiting students.

 

In addition, incoming students may not attend the compulsory courses from the first two years of study (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th semesters). These courses are labelled “Compulsory Courses for the first-year examinations” for the 1st and 2nd semesters, “Compulsory Courses Examination Block 1” for the 3rd semester, and “Compulsory Courses Examination Block 2” for the 4th semester.

 

D-MAVT reserves the right to reject Master’s degree students who do not hold a Bachelor’s degree from an institution with which ETH Zurich has an agreement.

Ideally you should come to our department during your Master’s degree studies, because at MSc level all courses are taught in English.
