SNSF Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships
The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) awards Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships to young scientists who are advanced in their careers and wish to make or continue a research stay abroad in order to acquire more in-depth knowledge and enhance their scientific profile while pursuing an academic career in Switzerland. Applications are invited from all disciplines.
The two annual deadlines for application are February 1 and August 1. Proposals have to be submitted online via the SNSF web portal mySNF.
Submission: eligibility criteria
At the time of the submission deadline, applicants must hold a Ph.D. (obtained no more than five years before the submission deadline), and prove that they have gained at least one year of research experience at postdoctoral level. They must be Swiss nationals or hold a valid Swiss permanent residence, residence or cross-border commuter permit. In addition, candidates who do not have Swiss citizenship must provide evidence of at least three years of activity at a research institution in Switzerland at the time of the application.
Please note: In order to avoid financing gaps, fellows already staying abroad on a SNSF Early Postdoc.Mobility fellowship may submit applications for an Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowship even though they have not yet completed a full year of postdoctoral research.
Duration of fellowships and funding
SNSF Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships are awarded for a continuous stay of 12-36 months at a research institution abroad; it may start approximately six months after the submission deadline at the earliest and no later 12 months after the date of the ruling. Although it is possible to conduct part of the fellowship in Switzerland it must not exceed one-third of the entire duration and should not be used to complete the fellowship. The funding period of 36 months comprising both mobility fellowships for Early Postdoc.Mobility and Advanced Postdoc.Mobility may not be exceeded. From 2014 on, a possibility for a return grant is introduced, which includes a salary and social security contributions. The funding period is 3 to 12 months (return phase).
Application and evaluation
Proposals must be submitted electronically via mySNF according to the SNSF general guidelines and regulations. While the ETH Zurich Research Commission provides a review for each ETH Zurich application, the National Research Council of the SNSF is responsible for the scientific evaluation of applications and for awarding "Advanced Postdoc.Mobility"-Fellowships.
A final report must be submitted within six weeks after completion of the fellowship via mySNF, including (1) a general, (2) a scientific and (3) a financial part. Fellows will receive an invitation from mySNF to submit the report in due time, together with the necessary instructions.
