ETH President Lino Guzzella spoke with pride of the contribution that ETH Zurich has made to this engineering feat at an ETH Zurich exhibition for the inauguration of the Gotthard tunnel (ETH News): “This tremendous engineering triumph is a demonstration of how our research leads to insights that can be applied to real-life projects. It is also a clear statement that investment in high education pays off.” Not only constructions engineers werde involved in this extraordinary project, but also also geologists, geomatics engineers and IT specialists - many of them are ETH alumni.

The many visitors to the exhibition had the opportunity to watch various experiments and exhibits by ETH researchers and students at seven stalls around the theme ‘Mobility of the future’. They also used examples from the world of digitalisation and networks to show another area in which ETH Zurich scientists are pioneers.
