Inventions, patents, software and licenses
In addition to research and teaching, the remit of ETH Zurich also extends to the commercial exploitation of research results. The aim of such exploitation is to maximise revenues for the Swiss economy and assure a flow of funds back to research. An important aspect of this activity is to protect research results, for instance by patent applications.
ETH Zurich files around 50-100 patents and computer programs a year.
