First Switzerland-Japan Joint Committee on Cooperation in Science and Technology

The Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) is funding the Japanese-Swiss Cooperation over the current four years' period (2017–2020).

In the current phase the direct exchange especially among postdocs and PhD students will be a focus and the young researchers exchange programme together with the Japan Society for the promotion of Science (JSPS) open to all disciplines (see below for call details) will be continued. Funding for joint research projects will be offered through the Swiss National Science Foundation. Additional instruments are currently under negotiation.

Young Researchers Exchange Programme - 4th Call open

The Leading House ETH Zurich and the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) have together established an instrument for funding the exchange of young scientists between Japan and Switzerland. Doctoral students (Master students and young postdocs in exceptional cases) at Swiss institutions from all scientific fields - including social sciences and humanities - can apply for stays of 3-6 months in Japan. The programme will cover airfare and a living allowance in Japan.

The fourth call for proposals is now open. Deadline for the submission of applications in Switzerland: 19 May 2017.

Project funding

The Swiss National Science Foundation is coordinating and managing bilateral project funding in the form of joint research projects (JRP). A call for proposals together with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) in Biology, Medicine, Humanities and Social Sciences. The deadline for applications is June 6, 2016.
