Jean-Michel Coron and Claire Voisin join the ETH-ITS

The Institute welcomes the two new Senior Fellows Jean-Michel Coron and Claire Voisin.

by Giovanni Felder

Jean-Michel Coron, of the Université Pierre et Marie Curie is a specialist in fluid dynamics and control theory. With a background in nonlinear functional analysis he moved his research interests to the theory of control and stabilization of nonlinear systems, with groundbreaking results both on the theoretical and the applied side. At the ETH-ITS he will organize joint activities on nonlinear dynamics with Senior Fellow Eitan Tadmor. Claire Voisin, of the Collège de France, is an algebraic geometer. Her deep results on fundamental questions on the geometry of Kähler manifolds and canonical embeddings of curves make her a leading specialist in her research field.  She will give a Nachdiplomvorlesung at ETH in the Autumn Semester 2017. Both Claire and Jean-Michel will stay at the Institute until the end of 2017. They will be joined in February by mathematician Gerhard Huisken, of the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach and the University of Tübingen, and, later in the year, by condensed matter physicist Leonid Glazman, of Yale University.
