Extract of ETH News 01.11.2016 “This was a team effort with essential contributions by Harvard professor Eugene Demler, who collaborated with us over several months when he was an ITS fellow”, says Meinrad Sidler who is a doctoral student in Imamoğlus group. Since 2013 the Institute for Theoretical Studies (ETH-ITS) of the ETH has endeavoured to foster interdisciplinary research at the intersection between mathematics, theoretical physics and computer science.
Alexander Balatsky, Eitan Tadmor and Vadim Kaloshin join the ETH-ITS as Senior Fellows
Three new Senior Fellows join the ETH Institute for Theoretical Studies this summer to stay for the coming academic year.
Their research interests cover a broad spectrum in mathematics and physics with applications to material science, engineering and computer science.
This semester there are six Senior Fellows staying at the ETH Institute for Theoretical Studies. They cover a wide range of topics in mathematics, physics and computer science and contribute to various activities at the Institute and at ETH.
The Institute for Theoretical Studies and the Pauli Center for Theoretical Physics of the ETH Zurich are hosting a three day mini-workshop on Double Field Theory, with particular emphasis on possible applications of Double Field Theory to cosmology.
ITS Workshop „Mathematical Finance beyond classical models“
This workshop focuses on new approaches to robustify financial modeling: robust finance (serious model uncertainty is quantified), stochastic portfolio theory and large financial markets (effects of large markets are quantified), robust calibration (classical calibration techniques are combined with econometric techniques).
Two senior fellows and six junior fellows join the Insitute this summer
Cosmologist Robert Brandenberger and mathematician Walter Schachermayer will spend a year the ETH Institute for Theoretical Studies as senior fellows from August 2015. They will be joined in September 2015 by six starting junior fellows: Alessandro Carlotto, Maria Colombo, Lavinia Heisenberg, Titus Lupu, Aline Ramires and Ran Tessler. In november another senior fellow, particle physicist Riccardo Barbieri, will also join.
The ETH-ITS was founded on 1 June 2013. It was made possible by the generous support of the Walter Haefner Foundation and of Dr. Max Rössler through the ETH Foundation, following an initiative of former ETH President Ralph Eichler.
