About Zurich and ETH
Zurich (Zürich in German, Züri in Swiss German) is the biggest city in Switzerland. Located at the tip of Lake Zurich, at the foot of the Swiss Alps, it is the main cultural and economic centre of the country.
Founded in 1854, the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zurich (ETHZ) has a strong tradition in science and engineering. A federal institute educating students coming across Switzerland, it is nowadays one of the top universities in Europe. It has welcomed a number of memorable physicists as professors or graduates, such as Albert Einstein, Felix Bloch, Wolfgang Pauli, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen or John von Neumann.
Nowadays, it comprises 18000 students spread over two campuses, Zentrum and Hönggerberg. The latter sits on top of a hill overlooking the city of Zurich, and among others houses the department of physics, where the conference is held.

Where to sleep
Hotel nights + breakfasts throughout the conference are included in the conference fee, and this is a pretty good deal given the usual high prices practiced in Switzerland compared to the rest of Europe. You can alternatively choose to look for accommodation by yourself during that time for a reduced fee.
What to do
Zurich has a lot to offer from a cultural point of view, may it be museums (Kunsthaus among others), opera (Opernhaus) and concert halls (Tonhalle). It also has a vibrant nightlife, supported by many bars and clubs along the Langstrasse, close to Hardbrücke and in Niederdorf. Nature lovers can also easily fulfill their needs, from short walks along the lake or on the local hills (Uetliberg) to hikes in the neighbouring Swiss Alps.
