The Bachelor programmes comprise 180 credits, corresponding to a study period of six semesters (three years). The Bachelor programmes always begin in the autumn semester.
The first year (60 credits) focuses on basic courses in mathematics, natural sciences relevant to the degree programme, and the fundamentals of the subject. This first year ends with a comprehensive examination.
In the following four or six semesters, the subject is studied in increasing depth (120 credits). Students can start to establish priorities in the form of elective courses, projects and a final Bachelor thesis. In addition to the examinations held each semester, there are individual written papers and project presentations.
1st year (60 credit points): General fundamental courses: Mathematcs, Physics, Chemistery, (Biology), Subject-specifi fundamentals >> First-year examination
2nd and 3rd year (120 credit points): Subject-specific courses, Eletives, Projects, Bachelor thesis (some programmes), Humanities, Social and Polotical Science courses
Graduate degree: "Bachelor of Science ETH" or "Bachelor of Arts ETH". Building
on the Bachelor programme, students can consolidate their
knowledge by taking a Master degree programme in the same subject
(so-called consecutive Master programmes). There are also specialised
Master programmes with special entrance requirements.
