Specialised Joint Master programme
Computational Biology and Bioinformatics is an
interdisciplinary domain where procedures and methods from computer
science are developed and deployed to address and solve important
current problems in biology.
This degree programme is offered in cooperation with the University of Zurich.
Credits ECTS: 90
Language of instruction: English
Structure:
The
teaching offer includes lectures in biology, computer science and mathematics,
in addition to tasks where practical experience in research projects may be
gathered. The programme contains no compulsory courses. Instead, students draw
up their own individual curricula with help from a personal mentor.
- Core courses grouped in three focus areas: structures, sequences, systems
- General courses: methods in computer science; advanced courses for in-depth studies; humanities, social sciences
- Transfer: lab rotations in bioinformatics, computer science and experimental biology
- Application: Master Thesis (6 months)
Entrance requirements:
Qualifying Bachelor’s degree programmes: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Computer Science, Materials Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computational Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Biology, or equivalent degree.
